Where the Lady Vols stack up.
The SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament is set. The fun begins on Wednesday, and the Tennessee Lady Vols will tip things off in Greenville, South Carolina.
Tennessee stumbled down the stretch to fall all the way to the No. 9 seed in the loaded SEC. They’ll face No. 16 Texas A&M to open the tournament, with the winner earning the right to play No. 8 Vanderbilt.
The Lady Vols finished 8-8 in conference play after going unblemished in non-conference play. Things appeared to be on the way up after an upset of UConn in Knoxville, but Tennessee ended up dropping their final two games. Kentucky blew them out by 30, then Tennessee took an ugly loss at home to Georgia to close things out on Sunday.
Kim Caldwell now has to turn things around in a hurry with tournament season upon us. The Lady Vols are now a projected No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, according to ESPN. Considering their draw here in the SEC Tournament — one that runs directly into top seed South Carolina — it’s going to be hard to improve that projection.
Tip-off on Wednesday between Tennessee and Texas A&M is set for 11 am ET on SEC Network.
