Well, there was at least some good news on Sunday for Tennessee athletics. The Base Vols, as usual, delivered that news with a 7-1 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks to secure a weekend sweep in Columbia. Tennessee won Friday 11-7 and delivered a late 7-5 win after Cannon Peebles blasted a ball over the wall in right center in the ninth inning on Saturday.
Tennessee improves to 26-2 on the season and 8-1 in SEC play, which has them in a tie with Georgia and Arkansas at the top of the SEC. The Vols also won their 12th straight SEC series going back to last season. A truly remarkable run.
Accordingly, without much surprise, Tennessee held the top spots in all of the polls on Monday morning.

And in case you’re wondering how impressive it is to be at the top of the SEC right now, 8 of the current top 10 teams in the polls are in the SEC. Pretty remarkable stuff.
But you know who isn’t in the top 10? Preseason #1 Texas A&M. The Aggies fell to an incredible 1-8 in SEC play (13-14 overall) after dropping a home series against Kentucky with a 10-5 loss on Sunday in College Station. It’s hard to put into words what a disappointment they’ve been, and absent a huge turnaround quickly, it looks like a strong bet they’ll miss the NCAA tournament.
However, the Aggies will get their shot to start that turnaround on Friday evening in Knoxville, where they begin a weekend series with Tennessee. The Vols will look to extend their misery after taking on Tennessee Tech on Tuesday evening in Knoxville.
