Where things stand entering the weekend.
We’re a day out from Tennessee getting their weekend going in Nashville at the SEC Tournament. The Volunteers are set to face the winner of Texas/Texas A&M, with tip-off loosely scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon.
An opportunity for that elusive No. 1 seed remains in play for the Volunteers, even after dropping a tough one to Ole Miss on the road last week. Their path to the Sunday title would potentially be Texas A&M, then Auburn. That would obviously give the Volunteers two more big wins with a shot to win it all on Sunday.
As things currently stand, Tennessee is a consensus No. 2 seed. Their national seed ranges from five to seven among most top outlets, which obviously keeps the door open for a move up.
Thursday, March 13th Bracketology for Tennessee
ESPN: East, No. 2 seed (6th overall), paired with Duke
CBS Sports: Midwest, No. 2 seed (5th overall), paired with Houston
SBNation: East, No. 2 seed (6th overall), paired with Duke
On3: South, No. 2 seed (7th overall), paired with Auburn
Tennessee will be looking to avoid the early exit they experienced last season Mississippi State ended the party before it could even get started, and Texas or Texas A&M will be looking to do the same. The Volunteers are +600 to win the SEC Tournament, trailing Auburn, Florida and Alabama.
Selection Sunday is nearly upon us, with the full NCAA Tournament bracket set to be revealed on Sunday evening following the remaining conference championship games.
