We’re three days away from The Third Saturday of October and the annual Alabama-Tennessee game. Last year the Vols won the game in Knoxville, but this year it’s in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama head into the game with a 6-1 record, a 4-0 record in the SEC and the No. 11 ranking in the country. Meanwhile, Tennessee are No. 17 in the country with a 5-1 record and a 2-1 record in the SEC.
Last year the Vols got their first win over the Crimson Tide since 2007. But 247Sports analysts Chris Hummer and Brad Crawford believe that Alabama will be taking back the series this weekend.
Hummer said that Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton could be a liability for the Vols in this game and predicts a 31-24 Alabama win.
“This could be the week Joe Milton really hurts Tennessee. Milton has struggled in SEC play completing only 59% of his passes and throwing as many TDs (4) as interceptions (4). Alabama, for its part, has shown to be one of the elite defenses in the country at 13th nationally in yards allowed per play. The good news for Tennessee is it rarely allows chunk plays which is frankly how Alabama moves the ball through the air. Do I think Alabama is better than Tennessee? I do. Milton is flawed and the Vols defense, while excellent, hasn’t been tested by an opponent like Alabama this year. But I still have a hard time picking a Bama blowout given its offensive struggles. Give me Tennessee to cover for the fourth straight week. … Alabama 31, Tennessee 24,” Hummer wrote.
Crawford believes that Alabama will play a lot harder than they did last week but may struggle to score in what will still be a win:
“The Crimson Tide played with their food against Arkansas. Alabama had a commanding lead in the game, then took its foot off the gas and the Razorbacks, who had lost four straight and came in with a limp, had a chance to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Perhaps Tennessee coming to Bryant Denny makes Alabama play a little harder and a bit more focused. Last season’s game went to the wire in a shootout, but points may come at a premium in this one. … Alabama 24, Tennessee 13,” Crawford wrote.
