Mike Matthews made his highly anticipated recruiting decision Wednesday night.
The five-star wide announced his commitment to Tennessee. Matthews chose the Volunteers over Georgia, Clemson, and USC.
.“What makes Tennessee right for me are the culture, the tenacity that everyone has there, how crazy the fan base is, and the offense,” Matthews told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Everyone is bought into what Tennessee is doing and they have great support. Their fans have also always stood out to me.”

Matthews is the No. 13 overall recruit and No. 4 receiver in 247Sports’ composite rankings. According to Vol Report, he’s the highest-rated wideout ever to commit to Tennessee.
Per Simmons, the Georgia native was leaning toward joining the Bulldogs before visiting Tennessee in June. The 6-foot, 180-pound wideout is excited to work with head Josh Heupel in an offense that scored 46.1 points per game last season.
“Coach Josh Heupel was very involved with me,” Matthews said. “He’s one of the coaches I have talked the most to during my recruiting process. We talk all of the time and he treats me like family.”
Matthews, who averaged 21.5 yards per catch at Lilburn High School as a junior, brings immense athleticism and upside to Rocky Top.
