Having played in both the Big Ten and SEC, Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton has a unique perspective on the college football world.
During SEC Media Days on Thursday, Milton was asked about some of the differences between these two powerhouse conferences.
In response to this question, Milton focused on the greater average size and athleticism of defensive linemen in the SEC.
“Guys, they may be 200 plus, right, but they’re running,” Milton said, via Saturday Down South. “Those guys are running.
“For example, my first let’s say big SEC game, I won’t mention who it was, but I was running, and I saw the goal line. I was so happy. I’m thinking that I’m going to score, right? I just feel a big old hand come across my visor. I just went with it. At the same time I was thinking, This game is real. Those guys in the SEC can run and they’re fast.”
Milton spent the first three seasons of his college career in Ann Arbor, and is now heading into his third season with the Volunteers. The 2023 season will be the 23-year-old quarterback’s first year as a full-time starter.
Through nine game appearances this past season, Milton recorded 971 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions.
