The next in line at shooting guard.
Another shooting guard currently in the transfer portal is set to visit Tennessee. The Volunteers have had a successful offseason to this point, but they can’t quite seem to solve the riddle at the 2-spot in the starting lineup.
Tennessee, of course, is tasked with replacing guys like Chaz Lanier, Jahmai Mashack and Jordan Gainey at the position. Rick Barnes has evaluated and visited with several options to this point, but hasn’t found an answer yet.
The latest candidate, according to Mike Wilson, is former Louisiana Tech guard Amaree Abram. Per Wilson, Abram will be on campus for a visit today (Monday).
Amaree Abram made 66 3-pointers and shot 37.3% last season from three at Louisiana Tech.
He is a very good fit for what Tennessee is looking to add to its roster on the perimeter. He is visiting Monday. https://t.co/EmeLE7GbUS

Abram began his career at Ole Miss, signing with the rebels as a four-star prospect in the class of 2022. He was ranked as the 64th overall player in the cycle, checking in as the 11th ranked point guard in the class. Abram spent one season with Ole Miss before moving to Georgia Tech, where he appeared in just ten games. He ended up at Louisiana Tech last season, where he would start all 32 games.
The 6-4 guard averaged 12.3 points per game for the Bulldogs. He made 66 three-point attempts, shooting at a 37.3 percent clip. With Tennessee’s remaining needs — quite literally a couple of guards who can shoot — he makes a lot of sense for the Volunteers.
Tennessee has found answers at point guard with Ja’Kobi Gillespie from Maryland and they’ve rounded out the frontcourt depth with Jaylen Carey from Vanderbilt. Barnes also inked future NBA lottery pick Nate Ament, who can fill a small/power forward role. Not for lack of trying, but he’s yet to add shooting to this equation. That’s where Abram could step in.
Barnes likely will add at least two more guards here with three open scholarships available.
