A big one tonight on the Plains.
Tennessee heads south for another huge road test — a top ten matchup showdown with Bruce Pearl’s Auburn Tigers. The Volunteers have bounced back once again from a road loss at Vanderbilt last weekend, beating the 14th-ranked Mississippi Bulldogs on Tuesday.
No. 1 Auburn had the midweek off, giving them time to get star player Johni Broome a little closer to a return. Broome is listed as questionable to play tonight, and could suit up on a minutes restriction.
Tennessee has issues of their own as key sixth-man Jordan Gainey battles the flu.
Regardless of who plays, Tennessee is walking into a tough environment against a team that can really shoot the ball. The Tigers have the No. 1 ranked offense in the country, per Kenpom.
“You got to be disciplined, you have to really stick together,” Rick Barnes said of defending Auburn. “And like we’ve said before, we’re not asking one person to guard one guy. We believe in our team defense. But that’s why Auburn’s so good. They shoot the ball as well as anybody in the country. And it takes a lot of focus, takes a lot of discipline and to make sure you stay locked in throughout the possession.”
