Another ranked battle tonight.
Tennessee is back in Knoxville tonight after a week on the road, but the games get no easier. It’s another ranked matchup tonight for the Volunteers, who are set to welcome in No. 23 Georgia to Food City Center.
The Vols are coming off of a tough road win at Texas on Saturday night, beating the Longhorns 74-70. That response comes after Tennessee was walloped at Florida last Tuesday night. They’ll face a former Gator head coach tonight, as Tennessee AD Danny White welcomes his brother Mike back to Knoxville.
Georgia — at long last — seems to be turning a corner as a program. Driving that point home? This is the first time ever the two schools have met as ranked teams. Tennessee last faced a ranked Georgia squad all the way back in 2003.
The Bulldogs are led by 6-11 freshman center Asa Newell, who averages north of 15 points per game. He’ll provide a challenge for Tennessee’s shallow frontcourt, while Mount Saint Mary’s transfer Dakota Leffew will provide a big threat from outside.
On the Tennessee side, we’ll see if a return to Knoxville will be enough to jumpstart star guard Chaz Lanier, who has had a tough couple of games on the road.
