Another night game at Neyland.
Tennessee welcomes Mississippi State to town tonight for a homecoming matchup with plenty on the line. The Volunteers, who debuted at No. 7 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, need to win — preferably in impressive fashion — with Georgia coming up next weekend.
Josh Heupel will face his old buddy Jeff Lebby, who coached under him for a few years at UCF.
“I’ve known Jeff for a long time, dating all the way back to Oklahoma when he was still a student there,” Heupel said of Lebby. “And great respect for him, his staff. It’s not just Jeff that I know. I know a bunch of their guys and good people, good coaches and doing a good job down there. So it’ll be unique in that I’ve sat in the staff room with those guys before.”
The Bulldogs are 2-7 on the year, but have given teams like Georgia, Texas A&M and Texas strong showings. In a classic look-ahead spot, Tennessee needs to be ready to roll tonight.
