One last ride for the boys.
Welcome to Senior Day in Knoxville. There’s a lot going on here today, starting with a game Tennessee absolutely has to win. The Volunteers welcome in South Carolina, the worst team in the SEC. The Gamecocks are just 2-15 in conference play. Tennessee can lock in a double bye in the SEC Tournament with a win, and likely a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Following the game, Tennessee will hold Senior Day festivities. It’s the final ride in Knoxville for program pillars Zakai Zeigler and Jahmai Mashack, along with Jordan Gainey, Igor Milicic, Darlinstone Dubar and Chaz Lanier.
It’s also the final call at Food City Center for Bob Kesling and Bert Bertelkamp. It’s at least worth noting that 70-year-old Rick Barnes could see an obvious retirement off-ramp here with so much roster turnover coming. Maybe, maybe not.
Just keep all of that in mind today as Tennessee takes the court for the final time in Knoxville with quite a bit on the line.
