The field and bracket for the 2024 College World Series is set. Four SEC teams and four ACC teams will vie to take home the national title, but only one can come out on top. For one betting expert though, it’s best to leave the money off of one particular team.
In a feature for SportsLine, Las Vegas betting expert Eric Cohen made the case that while the Tennessee Volunteers are the favorites to win it all, betting on them is a bad idea.
Cohen believes that the Vols’ pitching isn’t up to snuff and made the bold prediction that they won’t win more than one game against the likes of Florida State, North Carolina or Virginia.
“The pitching isn’t as dominant as the last several years as evidenced by No. 4 seed Evansville scoring 16 runs in the first two games of their Super Regional series,” Cohen said. “I predict that Tennessee won’t win more than one game against ACC foes Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia.”
Nearly every outlet has the Vols winning the entire tournament. They had the top record in college baseball in the regular season. So to see them win no more than one game against nearly half of their opponents would certainly get in the way of that.
The struggles that Tennessee had against Evansville have clearly given some people pause though.
Are the Vols being overhyped heading into the College World Series?
