Today is the birthday for Alabama football legend and college football analyst Greg McElroy. Among the many to wish him birthday wishes is Tennessee legend Peyton Manning – who decided to have some fun at Greg’s expense.
During today’s edition of Always College Football, Manning sent in a birthday message where he took a dig at the past year flying by “like Tennessee’s receivers running through Alabama” back in October.
“Hey Greg, happy 35th birthday. I know age 34 flew by. Kind of like Tennessee’s receivers running through the Alabama secondary when we scored 52 on you this past October. You remember that, pal? I think you do. Anyway, have a great celebration tonight… Just remember though, Coach Saban asked me to make sure to remind you it’s lights out by 10 p.m. pal.”
McElroy laughed it off but then pointed out that he was a teenager the last time the Vols beat his Crimson Tide prior to 2022.
“I’m glad you enjoyed that. The last time Tennessee beat Alabama I was in my teens. So I’m glad you guys got to enjoy this past year. Congratulations. Hopefully you enjoyed that victory cigar last year – it’ll be the last one we see until I turn 50…” McElroy replied.

For most of Nick Saban’s tenure at Alabama, the Third Saturday in October was a laugher with Alabama winning the matchup every year for a decade and change.
Maybe now the rivalry will start behaving a little more like one.
