After leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns this past season, Raheem Mostert probably deserved a raise from the Miami Dolphins. Instead, he got competition for reps as the Dolphins took Tennessee speedster Jaylen Wright in the 2024 NFL Draft.
But Mostert isn’t complaining. Quite the opposite, he selflessly said “the more the merrier” and believes that adding Wright or any running back is better for the offense.
“I mean, the more the merrier,” Mostert said, via NFL.com. “That’s what I would say, especially in this offense. We can utilize a lot of different attributes and speed is definitely an attribute that we like to maximize to the most of our abilities. So to be able to have another guy come into the mix and bring his attributes and his contributions into the offense and his speed is definitely going to be very beneficial on our part.
“We can now line up and we could use three backs at one point with a receiver and maybe a tight end as well, so there’s a lot of different things you can do in the offense, especially with guys that have a lot of different speeds.”
The Dolphins had a top six rushing attack in the league on top of the league’s No. 1 passing attack this past season.
But Mostert didn’t offer quite as much production in the passing game as No. 2 running back De’Von Achane did. Adding more running backs could be an effort to further bolster their passing game.
We’ll see.
One way or another, the Dolphins backfield is going to have a lot of mouths to feed in 2024.
