There’s no love lost between Alabama and Tennessee when their football teams take to the field.
During the third quarter of today’s game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, linebacker Elijah Herring of the Tennessee defense dove at Alabama running back Roydell Williams after a play and tried to punch the ball out of Williams’ hands.
But Herring missed wildly and all he managed to do was bash Williams in the head with his forearm. And even after missing it looked like he kept trying to push on Williams’ head.
Referees didn’t throw a flag on the play and it’s iffy as to whether the play would have even warranted one. Ironically, Williams’ inability to make contact with his fist probably saved him from conceding a 15-yard penalty or even getting ejected.

Tennessee’s defense limited Alabama to just seven points in the first half but has struggled mightily since the third quarter.
The Vols gave up three straight scoring drives in the third quarter to fall into a 24-20 hole heading into the fourth quarter.
The game is being played on CBS.
