It was another terrific week for the Tennessee Vols baseball team last week. They went 5-0 with wins over Radford, Xavier, and a sweep of St. Bonaventure. They managed to run rule the Bonnies twice over the weekend as well, winning 12-0, 11-1, and 13-2. In Tennessee’s first 16 games, they’ve run ruled their opponents in half. Tennessee is still one of two undefeated teams in the country, along with Florida State.
Pretty incredible stuff.
Still, that wasn’t enough to undo D1 Baseball’s crush on the LSU Tigers, who they have as #1 again this week, with the Vols #2. Tennessee checked in at the top spot in Baseball America’s poll again though.

Tennessee – who’s slugged 49 home runs to LSU’s 25 this year – will get a chance to move to the top, presumably, in all polls this week, as they have a massive series on deck to open SEC play. The Vols host West Georgia on Tuesday and then welcome the Florida Gators to Lindsey Nelson Stadium this weekend for a top ten showdown. The Gators dropped back-to-back games a week ago to Miami and UCF, but they’ve otherwise been excellent at 15-2.
The Vols have crushed the competition so far, looking every bit like a true College World Series championship contender, which is hard to believe given the turnover from last year’s roster. We’ll see how real they look against another Omaha contender in Knoxville this weekend.
