Another three-game series. Can Tennessee stay perfect?
The Tennessee Volunteers are still perfect. The defending national champs are just one of five remaining unbeatens left in the sport, following two more mid-week wins. Tennessee was pushed by Radford before exploding their way to a run-rule victory, then disposed of Xavier on Wednesday, 13-1.
This weekend they’ll welcome St. Bonaventure to town for a three-game series. The Bonnies are 7-4 on the year, playing out of the Atlantic 10 conference. St. Bonaventure will toss a couple of really good starters at Tennessee this weekend, most notably Michael Salina. The MLB prospect can go 100+ mph on his fastball, and was named the top pro prospect in the entire conference. Salina struck out nine on his way to a win over MTSU last weekend. He’ll get the ball on Saturday this weekend.
Tennessee’s white hot offense rolls into the weekend leading the nation in home runs. They rank third in batting average and third in walks drawn. Freshman Levi Clark ranks third nationally in individual batting average. On the mound, Tennessee ranks second in the country in ERA and first in strikeouts per nine innings.
13-0 Tennessee has this three-game series left, along with a mid-week game against West Georgia before opening SEC play next weekend against Florida.
