The Volunteers are now a top ten team in the Coaches Poll.
Nobody was really sure what type of product Tennessee basketball was going to put on the floor in their first road test, but it’s safe to say this new-look roster was ready to roll. The Volunteers obliterated Louisville in the KFC Yum! Center, controlling things from the opening tip and bringing home a 22-point win.
Zakai Zeigler and Chaz Lanier scored 19 points each. Tennessee shot over 50 percent from three-point range and dominated on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 40-26.
Following the results of the first week of play, Tennessee moved up three spots to No. 9 in the Coaches Poll. They moved up one spot to No. 11 in the AP Poll.
Auburn was the big winner of the week, climbing into the top five following their win over Houston. The Cougars moved down to No. 8, while Baylor tumbled four spots to No. 12 after their blowout loss to Gonzaga. Texas A&M dropped ten spots to No. 23 after their opening night loss to UCF.
Tennessee returns to action on Wednesday night against Montana.
