The Volunteers remain undefeated.
Tennessee continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, beating Samford 11-1. Today’s matchup was much less stressful for the Vols, who had to earn it on Saturday.
Just as they’ve made a habit of doing in this early portion of the 2025 season, Tennessee found themselves in an early 1-0 hole in the 1st inning. JUCO product Brandon Arvidson got the start for Tennessee on the mound, going two innings on the day.
Tennessee once again quickly answered, scoring two runs in the 2nd. The Volunteers took advantage of a couple of hits and an error to take the early lead.
Austin Hunley took over on the mound and shut down Samford over the next two innings, giving up two hits and facing eight batters.
Tennessee’s offense started to pour it on in the bottom of the 4th. Dean Curley and Jay Abernathy got on base, then Gavin Kilen hit a three-run shot to extend the lead. Hunter Ensley followed that with a solo shot of his own, giving Tennessee a 6-1 lead.

The rout was on. Ensley and Kilen picked up another RBI a piece. Levi Clark hit another homerun — so did Stone Lawless. Very quickly, Tennessee held an 11-1 lead on their way to another run-rule victory.
Levi likes pinch hitting apparently…

Ryan Combs closed this one out in the 7th, and Tennessee came away with another sweep — this time against a solid Samford team that was picked to finish second in the SoCon.
Tennessee has a Tuesday meeting with North Alabama before heading to Houston to play in the Astros Foundation College Classic. Oklahoma State, Rice and Arizona are on deck for next weekend.
