It would make sense.
Amari Jefferson is probably a name that you’re familiar with. The Chattanooga native chose Alabama over Tennessee a little over a year ago, but didn’t see the field in his first during his first season in Tuscaloosa. The former four-star prospect has since hit the transfer portal, and his runner-up school suddenly has a burning need at wide receiver.
Tennessee will lose Bru McCoy and Dont’e Thornton this offseason, while Mike Matthews, Squirrel White, Kaleb Webb, Chas Nimrod, Nathan Leacock and Nate Spillman have all entered the transfer portal. Tennessee is left with two scholarship receivers as things currently stand.
So naturally, when Jefferson’s name popped up in the transfer portal this week, Tennessee was an easy prediction to make. Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos at On3 Sports logged predictions for the Volunteers to land Jefferson.

Jefferson was a top 200 prospect in the class of 2024, coming out of Baylor School. He was the fifth-ranked player in the state of Tennessee. Previously, Jefferson was committed to Tony Vitello to play baseball at Tennessee before ultimately ending up with Alabama.
Tennessee has also been connected to USC transfer Zachariah Branch, who is a former five-star prospect.
The Volunteers will welcome three newcomers to the depth chart from the class of 2025. Obviously, they’ll have to add at least a couple of receivers out of the portal. Jefferson would seem to be a good bet to start.
