The Volunteers move out of the top five.
Tennessee suffered their first loss of the season last week in Gainesville, and boy was it ugly. Nothing went right for the Volunteers, who couldn’t buy a jumper or even a rebound against the Gators. A 30 point loss comes with a consequence, and Tennessee paid the price in the polls.
Tennessee tumbled from the No. 1 spot all the way down to No. 6 today. Auburn took over the top spot after surviving the weekend against South Carolina. Star forward Johni Broome is out indefinitely after suffering a nasty sprained ankle against the Gamecocks, however.
Iowa State, Duke, Alabama and Florida round out the top five.
The SEC put nine in the top 25 this week — (1) Auburn, (4) Alabama, (5) Florida, (6) Tennessee, (8) Kentucky, (11) Texas A&M, (15) Mississippi State, (21) Ole Miss and (23) Georgia.
Tennessee will host Georgia on Wednesday night then travel to Nashville to face Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon.
