The status of Tennessee Volunteers QB Nico Iamaleava was revealed on Wednesday evening when the initial availability report was released by the SEC. Not surprisingly, Iamaleava has been listed as questionable for the game.
Nico isn’t the only major name listed as questionable on the report. The Vols’ top wide receiver, Dont’e Thornton, Jr., is also listed as questionable for the game.
Both Nico and Thornton left the Vols’ 33-14 win over Mississippi State with upper body injuries. It was later reported by ESPN’s Chris Low that Nico had been undergoing an evaluation for concussion-like symptoms after taking a blow to the head during the game. Nico has been practicing this week, and has reportedly been participating in some team activities, which is a positive sign for Saturday.
The news isn’t as good for RB DeSean Bishop, who will miss another game after missing last week’s contest. Peyton Lewis should be set to handle primary backup duties in Athens.
On the other side of things, Trevor Etienne is listed as questionable, so that’s something worth monitoring on Georgia’s end of the report.
We’ll see if Nico makes the trip to Athens on Friday and what the final availability report says on Saturday morning.
