Tennessee loses some depth in the defensive backfield.
Tennessee has lost their second piece off the roster so far this spring as safety John Slaughter has hit the transfer portal. The former three-star prospect out of Mississippi never found his way to a starting job, and now with two seasons left he’ll look for a new home with more opportunities.

Slaughter checks in at 6-2, 197 pounds and has appeared in 20 career games for Tennessee. Most of his appearances came via special teams, which included recovering an onside kick against Kent State.
Slaughter came away with his lone career pick against UTEP last season.
Tennessee returns Andre Turrentine and Jakobe Thomas at safety for the 2025 season. Veteran Christian Charles could provide Tennessee with depth at the position, along with sophomore Edrees Farooq. Kaleb Beasley also got a little work at the position, per a few reports out of spring camp.
The transfer portal will be open for entry until April 25th. Those that enter do not have to find a new school by the 25th.
Tennessee has an obvious need at quarterback following the Nico Iamaleava departure, but they could also use depth and experience at both wide receiver and cornerback also.
