Tennessee athletic director Danny White recently shot down a report about offering the head football coaching gig to Tony Elliott.
White took to Twitter to say that Josh Heupel was the only coach that got an offer even though several candidates were interviewed.
“Interesting…don’t remember offering. Ignored this the first time, can’t do it again. An interview doesn’t constitute an offer. Interviewed several candidates, offered 1,” White tweeted.

Based on how Heupel has done so far, it’s safe to say White made the right choice. In two seasons at the helm, Heupel is 18-8 and has led Tennessee to a win in the Orange Bowl.
He also had the program as a top-three team in the country for a time this past season.
As for Elliott, he just wrapped up his first season as head coach at Virginia, leading the program to a 3-7 record.
Funny enough, Tennessee and Virginia are set to square off in a non-conference clash on Sept. 2. Kickoff will be at Noon ET.
