The University of Tennessee is reportedly under NCAA investigation due to potential violations regarding name, image and likeness.
Donde Plowman, the chancellor for the University of Tennessee, called out NCAA president Charlie Baker with an emphatic statement.
“The leaders of intercollegiate athletics owe it to student-athletes and their families to establish clear rules and to act in their best interest,” the letter read. “Instead, two and a half years of vague and contradictory NCAA memos, emails and ‘guidance’ about name, image and likeness (NIL) has created extraordinary chaos that student-athletes and institutions are struggling to navigate. In short, the NCAA is failing.”
Last summer, Tennessee was penalized for over 200 rules infractions. The school was ultimately charged with over a dozen Level I violations and fined $8 million.
Full details regarding this investigation aren’t out yet. However, the NCAA’s inquiry was described by Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated as “major.”

Tennessee’s primary NIL collective, Spyre Collective, is reportedly involved in this case.
This investigation could lead to rule changes regarding NIL. On the other hand, it could also lead to Tennessee getting slammed by the NCAA again.
