It’s a surprising decision since Vanderbilt only won two games last season and lost a lot of players to the transfer portal. In fact, this is a Vanderbilt program that’s only won 12 games over the last five seasons.
This decision from a couple of media members led to some good laughs on social media.
“As a reminder: This poll was open to any reporter who attended SEC media days. Two people voted for Vanderbilt to win the league. Not everyone actually knows about teams beyond the ones they cover. And some people treat it like a joke, which it kind of is,” one tweet read.
“If you need further proof about how unserious preseason polls are, two media members picked Vanderbilt to win the SEC championship,” another tweet read.
“The Vanderbilt votes really show there are zero qualifications to be able to vote,” another fan tweeted.
Vanderbilt will get its 2024 season started against Virginia Tech on August 31.
