We might need a recount in Nashville because a handful of media members at SEC Media Days have apparently picked SEC minnow Vanderbilt to not just win the East, but the entire conference title.
According to college football insider Pat Forde, eight members picked Vanderbilt to win the SEC West. But five of them went so far as to pick the Commodores to win the SEC Championship.
Vanderbilt ranks among the most futile college football teams not just in the SEC, but in all of sports. Their last conference title was 100 years ago as members of the Southern Conference. In their entire history, they have just nine bowl game appearances with a 4-4-1 record.
Needless to say, fans had a wide range of reactions to this preseason media poll.

“are these AI votes for Vandy? Or real people who know something about football?” one user asked.
“Some SEC media bro’s got together and decided to prank the meaningless preseason poll. I bet they pee’d their tighty whities laughing at themselves,” wrote another.
“I think some people were confused by the assignment here,” PFN’s David Bearman mused.
If Vanderbilt can muster so much as a winning record, they’ll impress us all.
