Even though it’s been almost a week since Vanderbilt upset Alabama, the college football world is still buzzing about it.
Vanderbilt crushed Alabama’s defense and put up 40 points in a five-point victory in Nashville. Alabama was the No. 1 team in the country at the time before dropping to No. 7.
That upset reminded people of a quote that Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea gave in 2022 about the future of Vanderbilt football. During SEC Media Days, he boldly declared that the program would be the best program in the country.
“We know in time Vanderbilt football will be the best program in the country,” Lea said.
People made fun of Lea when he said that but they’re not doing it as much now after Vanderbilt’s upset. Granted, Vanderbilt is still only 3-2 this season so it has a bit to go and has to beat more top teams if it wants to be the best team in the SEC and the country.
Vanderbilt’s next game will be on the road against Kentucky this Saturday. After that, Vanderbilt will play Ball State at home before hosting top-ranked Texas on October 26.
Could we see Vanderbilt take down two No. 1 teams in the same season?
