Brad Calipari played 73 minutes in 27 games as a walk-on for Coach Cal’s Wildcats from 2016 to 2018. He then averaged 5.0 points per game in two seasons at Detroit Mercy, where he attained a master’s degree, before returning to Kentucky as a graduate assistant in 2021.
Last year, he joined LIU as a special assistant to the head coach. The Sharks went 3-26 in Rod Strickland’s first season.
Calipari joins a Vanderbilt program that finished 22-15 after winning 12 of its final 15 games. Jerry Stackhouse will look to lead the Commodores to their first March Madness appearance since 2017.
Although his employer is now a direct competitor of his father, Vanderbilt had Calipari ties before Brad’s arrival. His sister, Erin, is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the university.
