Brad Calipari will get to compete against his dad in the SEC this upcoming season.
Vanderbilt head coach Jerry Stackhouse has hired the younger Calipari as his director of on-court player development, he announced Monday.
A former walk-on for his father at Kentucky, Brad Calipari finished his playing career at Detroit and began his coaching career as a grad assistant for his dad in 2021-22.

Calipari, who turns 27 in November, was a member of Rod Strickland’s staff at LIU last season. He was recommended for the position at Vanderbilt by two basketball trainers–Micah Lancaster and Bryce Stanhope–he worked with during his high school and college days, according to Kentucky.com.
“A lot of it will be training guys, workout, skill-development work — just get guys better,” Brad Calipari said of his duties with the Commodores.
Calipari also told Kentucky.com that his father is “really excited” for him but that won’t stop him from talking some trash if Vanderbilt beats UK next season.
The Wildcats will face Vandy twice in 2023-24, both home and away.
