In one of the most wild finishes to a College World Series game ever, Vanderbilt beat Stanford on a walkoff. But it wasn’t the kind of walkoff you might be thinking off.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Vanderbilt had two outs with the teams tied at 5-5. The count was 1-0 and Vanderbilt runners were on second and third base.
Stanford pitcher Brendan Beck then made the mistake of his life. His pitch sailed over the head of his catcher, allowing Vanderbilt runner Spencer Jones to run the game-winning score from third.
The run delivered a 6-5 victory to the Commodores, advancing them in the College World Series. The Stanford Cardinals were eliminated.

Reactions to the incredible finish are going just as viral as the video itself. Some are absolutely gutted for Beck, while Vanderbilt fans are split on how to feel about winning in that fashion.
“I’m absolutely sick for the pitcher,” one fan replied. “It’s one thing to give up a walk-off. It’s another to not even get it to the plate. That’s a lifetime anchor, poor kid.”
“Damn what a way to lose, hate it for him especially since he was pitching such a good game,” replied another.
“Lol bro Vandy got a Gift from God and I’m a Vandy fan,” a Commodores fan wrote.
“Lets goo vandy runs college baseball,” another fan replied.
Vanderbilt are now on track for a rematch with NC State in Game 11. The Wolfpack beat them 1-0 in Game 6 earlier this week.
Will the Commodores’ luck continue this week?
