An historic win like today’s win for Vanderbilt over No. 1 Alabama during a special kind of celebration – and the FirstBank Stadium goalposts are going along for the ride.
Following the Commodores’ 40-35 win over the Crimson Tide, Vanderbilt fans stormed the field and made off with both goalposts, tearing them down and absconding with them. The fans clearly plan to party all night and promptly started marching them down West End Avenue in Nashville until they reached Broadway.
You can see numerous videos making the rounds on social media of thousands of Vanderbilt fans walking the two miles to Broadway, all while the goalposts are clearly visible above their heads:

But the goalposts won’t be joining the fans in the many bars surround the iconic Nashville honky-tonks. Once fans reached the Cumberland River – nearly 2.5 miles from FirstBank Stadium – the fans tossed the goalposts into the water, as per college football tradition.

It’s hard to understate just how incredible today’s win was for Vanderbilt.
For decades the program has been the minnow of the SEC, frequently coming in last in the conference and making less than 10 bowl games in their entire history.
Today’s win over the Crimson Tide marked their first-ever win over a top five AP ranked school, their first win over Alabama since 1984 (before any of their players were born), and their most points scored against Alabama in almost 120 years.
Vanderbilt’s football program hasn’t had many games worth truly celebrating through the years, and this was easily the biggest in their school’s entire history.
