Pittsburgh Penguins Trade Forward to the Nashville Predators

The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to be active as the clock ticks closer to Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline. Shortly after completing a trade with the San Jose Sharks, the Penguins have completed another one with the Nashville Predators. Forward Michael Bunting has been traded to the Predators, who are sending Luke Schenn and Thomas Novak back to Pittsburgh.

Penguins Trade with Predators

Bunting is the big name of this trade. Despite battling injuries this year, the forward has still managed 14 goals and 29 points in 58 games. The Predators will have Bunting for the remainder of this as well as next season. Bunting’s contract carries a $4.5 cap hit.

Novak is in the first season of a new contract. The forward has 13 goals and 52 games for a Predators team underperforming this season. Schenn, 35-years old, has six points on the season for the Predators. Schenn brings a physical presence to the Penguins lineup. Furthermore, Schenn is a strong penalty killer.

What This Means For Both Teams

Both teams have struggled to get where they want this season. As a result, both could still be active in the final days before the deadline. The Predators, who have already traded Gustav Nyquist, could be shopping centre Ryan O’Reilly.

For the Penguins, Erik Karlsson is a player who has emerged in trade rumours. Rickard Rakell is someone else who could be on the move. And while Penguin fans do not want to hear it, one cannot help but wonder if teams are calling about Sidney Crosby. Is it likely? Perhaps not. However, if a team is looking to buy at the deadline, it would not hurt to call and inquire.

There is just a few more days before the NHL Trade Deadline. It will be interesting to see what is next for these two teams, if anything.
