With the Super Bowl in the books, the Tennessee Titans are one step closer to making their selections in the 2025 NFL draft.
Yes, there are still a few months to go and the team still has to navigate the scouting combine, pro days and the scouting combine, but things are starting to fall into place. A new front office is in place and they have been rather open about what they are looking for: a generational talent.
The biggest question is whether one of those exists in this class. Cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and edge Abdul Carter are widely considered the top prospects, with quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders drawing interest due to need.
ESPN analyst Field Yates took a shot in his latest mock draft, and decided to roll the dice on a potential game changer.
1. Tennessee Titans – Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado
The Titans have made it clear they won’t force the quarterback issue at No. 1 if they don’t deem one of the passers worthy of the pick. Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders will be in the mix here, given Will Levis’ struggles, but Tennessee could go another direction. That opens the door for a spirited debate in picking between Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.
While there is little precedent for a prospect playing both sides of the ball in the NFL, Hunter has a rare skill set. Scouts have noted his determination and focus as reasons why he was able to play an astounding 1,458 snaps this past season. The Titans need help at both WR and CB, and Hunter — whom I’m ranking at corner right now — could boost either spot. He caught 15 touchdown passes and had four interceptions in 2024
Hunter is an intriguing prospect, although as Yates pointed out, he is a bit of an enigma. The Heisman Trophy winner may not be dominant at either position, but he has shown signs that he could excel in the league. While he is not the top prospect at either cornerback or wide receiver, he could help the Titans in many ways as they rebuild their roster.
