Another mock with the Titans going quarterback with the first pick
Dane Brugler says the Tennessee Titans would surprise everyone if they did not either trade the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft or use it to select a quarterback in his latest 2025 NFL mock draft. Since Brugler didn’t make any trades in his mock, the Titans selected Cam Ward, QB, Miami with the first pick. This has been a really popular pick in these early mock drafts. There is still a long way to go before anyone really knows what the Titans will do with the pick – especially as they still search for their next general manager. I expect the Titans to have their guy in place before the weekend is over.
Brugler says at the top of the mock that his quarterback class is considered weak, but acknowledges that teams will often reach for quarterbacks. This is why, again, my preference would be for them to trade the pick. It’s still a long shot, but a haul from the Dallas Cowboys if they hire Deion Sanders as their head coach would be so, so awesome.
In the second round of his mock, Brugler has the Titans taking Jack Sawyer, EDGE, Ohio State. Sawyer has just nine sacks on the season but has really been playing well in the college football playoffs. We will get one more chance to watch him play against Notre Dame in the national championship.
Here are Brugler’s comments on the Cam Ward pick:
The incoming general manager in Tennessee will inherit a great opportunity — either invest in a quarterback at No. 1 or trade the pick to a quarterback-needy team. Any other outcome would be surprising.
If the Titans opt not to take a QB, the ideal scenario would be to trade back two spots with the Giants. The Titans wouldn’t receive close to what the Bears scored in compensation from the Panthers for the No. 1 pick two years ago, but they would gain additional draft capital and still be in position to take Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter at No. 3.
However, in this mock, the Titans decide Ward is an upgrade over their current quarterback situation. His loose play style won’t be for everyone, but his ability to create explosive plays and the gradual improvements he has shown each year are promising aspects of his profile. Some scouts have compared Ward’s upside to that of Steve McNair, which would be music to the ears of fans in Nashville.
One note: if the Titans had the pick the Chicago Bears had, they would be drafting a quarterback and not trading the pick because remember that was the Bryce Young/CJ Stroud draft.
