Will the Titans stick and pick a quarterback?
While the Tennessee Titans have been in mock draft season unofficially since October, it officially kicked off as soon as they lost to the Houston Texans and the New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills yesterday. We will look at approximately 1,000 2025 NFL Mock drafts between now and when the draft actually happens in April. Right now the Titans have the first pick in the draft. My hope is that between now and the draft they trade that pick for a haul of picks to rebuild the roster.
Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus has put out a mock draft this morning, and he has the Titans spending the number one overall pick on Miami quarterback Cam Ward. His description of Ward is precisely why I hope the Titans don’t draft him:
The Titans earned the No. 1 overall pick in Week 18, largely because of their shortcomings at the quarterback position this season. Ward won’t be a fit for every team. For as much as he has some heroic big-time throws, he also has some head-scratching turnover-worthy plays. But he has improved every year he’s been in college, no matter the team. Ward possesses the mentality and the confidence you want in a potential franchise passer.
*Emphasis mine
We just went through a season of “head-scratching turnover-worthy plays” with Will Levis. Brian Callahan hated it. There is no reason to jump back on that train.
Trade the pick. Get an extra top-100 pick in this draft and a first round pick in next year’s draft to start to put some actual NFL talent on this roster.
