Could the Tennessee Titans trade head coach Mike Vrabel this offseason? The latest report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggests that’s a possibility.
Schefter reported Saturday morning that people around the NFL believe Vrabel might be open to a trade.
“There are people around the league who think that either Vrabel would be open to be moved to another team or that the Titans would be open to moving him — maybe both,” Schefter said. “Vrabel publicly has said he wants to remain in Tennessee, but others have wondered how content he is.”
If Vrabel actually wants to be traded, there are three teams that should consider hiring him.
Los Angeles Chargers
There will be a ton of people begging the Chargers to hire an offensive-minded head coach for Justin Herbert, and understandably so. That being said, the franchise should pursue a legitimate leader who can immediately fix the culture.
Not only would Vrabel give the Chargers stability, he’d most likely fix a defense that struggled mightily under Brandon Staley.
New England Patriots
This seems to be the most obvious fit for Vrabel. For starters, he played for the Patriots from 2001-2008, winning three Super Bowl titles during that stretch.
Vrabel has also learned an awful lot from Bill Belichick, making him the perfect successor to the six-time Super Bowl champion. We also can’t envision a scenario where Robert Kraft goes into the future with an unknown at head coach. Acquiring a proven winner such as Vrabel would solve that problem.
Washington Commanders
If Josh Harris and the new ownership group for the Commanders are looking to make a splash, trading for Mike Vrabel would do the trick.
Vrabel, who won NFL Coach of the Year in 2021, would get to move on from the AFC entirely while jumping ship to a team that will most likely have a top-five pick. He could, in theory, draft his franchise quarterback this April.
