The Titans could draft Will Levis’ replacement in April
It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Tennessee Titans will move on from starting quarterback Will Levis in the offseason. Levis struggled mightily again in Sunday’s defeat to the Indianapolis Colts.
Levis completed 16 passes for 95 yards and one touchdown. His 3.5 average yards per pass attempt was a career-low mark. It signaled the first time head coach Brian Callahan called plays like he was afraid of his quarterback. The Titans managed 95 passing yards against one of the worst secondaries in the league. Despite the safe play-calling, Levis managed to throw his league-leading seventh interception, and 10th overall turnover.
The Titans are 1-4 and are trending towards owning a top-five selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. They’ll likely be 1-6 following upcoming contests against the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions.
There’s a fairly decent chance the Titans will strongly consider drafting a quarterback in April. We’ve identified three potential options.
Shedeur Sanders | Colorado
Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders is the most talented quarterback prospect in college football. The most accurate deep-ball thrower in the NCAA, Sanders was outstanding against a better Kansas State program over the weekend. In a tight three-point defeat, he completed 34-of-40 passes for 388 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He’s thrown for 2,017 yards and 17 touchdowns through six appearances.
Sanders’ evaluation will be complicated. Off-field questions relating to the involvement of his father, NFL Hall of Famer and Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, will play a role in the pre-draft process. Ultimately, Sanders’ off-script ability and accuracy should pique the Titans’ interest.
Jalen Milroe | Alabama
Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen MIilroe has arguably been the most improved signal caller in college football this season. Milroe had his Heisman moment against the Georgia Bulldogs in late September, completing 27-of-33 passing attempts for 374 yards and two touchdowns in a thrilling 41-34 victory. He also rushed for 117 yards and two additional scores in that triumph.
Milroe has displayed some high-level physical tools this season. Head coach Kalen DeBoer is currently maximizing his skill set. Milroe is a bonafide playmaker at the quarterback position, but his ability to play the position in a more traditional sense will be questioned throughout the pre-draft process.
Garrett Nussmeier | LSU
One quarterback prospect that deserves more hype than he’s currently receiving is LSU Tigers signal caller Garrett Nussmeier. Nussmeier outplayed Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart in Saturday’s 29-26 overtime victory, connecting on 22 passes for 337 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He’s now thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns this season.
Nussmeier possesses the prototypical size and arm talent that will intrigue NFL general managers from February to April. The Tigers have rounded off five consecutive victories, including wins over the aforementioned Ole Miss, South Carolina, and UCLA, large in part due to Nussmeier’s production. He hasn’t quite entered the first-round conversation yet, but he could be a viable option for Ran Carthon on Day Two.
