The Tennessee Titans are in need of a quarterback, and news broke that one highly polarizing veteran will be available once the free agency period begins.
The New York Jets have announced they will be parting ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making him available to the 31 other teams in the NFL. Of course, this news comes with many questions concerning the signal caller before a potential new team would even pick up the phone.
It is a valid question to ask how much Rodgers has left in the tank at age 41, heading into his 21st NFL season in 2025. Rodgers never lived up to expectations in New York after missing 2023 with an Achilles injury and had an underwhelming 2024 campaign where he appeared to be a shell of himself. The biggest question may be how interested Rodgers is in continuing his career and where.
At this point, his next destination (if there is one) would only be speculation. Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently listed some of the pros and cons of potential Rodgers destinations, including Tennessee:
Tennessee Titans
Pros: Coach Brian Callahan had enough of Will Levis’ reckless tendencies by the end of 2024, so Rodgers could offer a more proven arm for an offense already featuring veterans like Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley. A wide-open division could also offer an instant path to playoff contention.
Cons: Tennessee owns the No. 1 pick in the draft, meaning a better, younger quarterback like Miami’s Cam Ward could take over under center instead. Would the brand-new front office, now headlined by general manager Mike Borgonzi, really want to bet its first steps on a guy admittedly nearing retirement?
There are so many unknowns with Rodgers at this point that it would be hard to tell what Tennessee is thinking. In fact, one could argue that the current construction of the roster may curtail their interest. With needs along the offensive line and at wide receiver, a quarterback nearing the end of his career may not be the answer.
