The Tennessee Titans need a quarterback, and Miami quarterback Cam Ward is often mentioned as a top target in the 2025 NFL draft.
While many analysts have different opinions on Ward and his draft value, no one can argue about his meteoric rise from zero-star recruit to potential No. 1 pick. Starting off in 2020 in the FCS with Incarnate Word, he moved to Washington State in 2022 and then finally Miami in 2024 and produced at every level. In fact, his 158 career touchdowns stand as an NCAA Division I record.
The 2024 Davey O’Brien Award winner as the nation’s best quarterback is poised to make an impact in the NFL, the only question is where he will continue his career. NFL analyst Garrett Podell recently released his Top 5 landing spots for Ward and has the Titans high on his list.
1. Tennessee Titans (1st overall pick)
The Titans have put it out there that they could be open to trading the first overall pick. Sure, it’s possible, but the Titans also desperately need a new quarterback to build around because Will Levis is not that guy. Levis produced the highest rate of plays in a season (16.3%) with a sack, fumble or interception since former Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell (17.8%) in 2009, per CBS Sports Research.
Tennessee, as a result, tied its single-season franchise record for losses (14). But there are weapons in Nashville with 1,000-yard back Tony Pollard and 1,000-yard receiver Calvin Ridley. The Titans’ offensive line is still a youthful work in progress overall, so Tennessee would be wise to use some of its $35.7 million in effective cap space, per Over the Cap, to fortify that area. If they do, the Titans could pave the way for Ward to be the 2025 NFL Draft’s first overall pick as a dynamic creator who also takes care of the football; his 3.3% turnover-worthy throw rate, per Pro Football Focus, is way lower than what’s been going on in Nashville lately.
There is no doubt the Titans will address the quarterback position at some point this offseason, and Ward could be a target. Ward has shown the ability to continually improve at every stop in college and has shown the ability to be a game changer in the NFL. He is a bit undisciplined, which could be an issue inside a system, but his upside is tremendous.
At this point before the NFL scouting combine, anything is possible and Ward will be the focus of a lot of teams in Indianapolis. He is definitely a prospect to keep an eye on.
