Smith of Emerald City Spectrum reported that the Seahawks have spoken with a couple of teams about Metcalf’s availability at the Combine. Smith mentioned that the Seahawks aren’t “actively shopping” Metcalf, but at least one team believes they have a trade package in place to make Seattle consider moving him.
According to Smith, the Seahawks would be looking for a package that consisted of the Packers’ first-round pick (No. 23 overall), either Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks and another early day three pick.
Smith adds that the Packers are the team to keep an eye on, as they have “an offer on the table that includes a high pick and a young receiver on roster to acquire Metcalf.”
Peter Bukowski cited a league source who confirmed the report and said that Green Bay has been working on a potential deal for Metcalf. Bukowski added that the Packers are hoping to trade Jaire Alexander to offset some of the lost draft capital it would take to acquire Metcalf from Seattle.
However, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic later disputed the reports, saying that there has been “no contact or negotiations as of now between the Packers and Seahawks regarding a DK Metcalf trade.”
The Packers could use some help at receiver with Christian Watson likely to miss a good portion of the season due to a torn ACL. Beyond that, many including Josh Jacobs believe they could use a No. 1 receiver.
Metcalf had a down season in Seattle. Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said after the season that they are looking to take better advantage of Metcalf’s physicality and want to figure out ways to get the receiver more involved going forward.
“Those are the things we’re looking to build off with DK,” Macdonald said, via Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. “He’s such a force out there. It’s not just good enough to get the coverage tilted to him. We’ve got to figure out more ways to get him the ball consistently and let him impact the game with the ball in his hands rather than just moving coverage that way.”
Metcalf, 26, is a former second-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. Seattle traded up to select him and exchanged the No. 77 and No. 118 picks for him.
He signed a four-year, $4,586,054 rookie contract including a $1,355,312 signing bonus with the Seahawks, and was set to earn a base salary of $3,986,000 in 2022 when he signed a three-year, $72 million extension.
Metcalf was due base salaries of $13 million and $18 million in the final two years of the deal when he restructured his contract in 2024. He’s set to make a base salary of $18 million in 2024 and is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
In 2024, Metcalf appeared in 15 games for the Seahawks and caught 66 passes on 108 targets for 992 yards (15.0 YPC) and five touchdowns.
