It’s not a secret that the Tennessee Titans must upgrade their quarterback during the offseason. Brian Callahan’s hope is that Will Levis will get something out of training with Jordan Palmer in California, but they need to have a backup plan in case that doesn’t pan out.
The Titans have options for answering this question, and right now the powers that be are evaluating draft talent, free agents, and potential trade stock. Free agency and trading ability open up in March, and we’ll get a good idea of what the Titans’ intentions are then.
Until then, though, it’s fun to speculate what could happen and PFF recently suggested that the Titans could try to trade for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, even though he has a no-trade clause in his contract. After discussing the obstacles that would lay in front of this deal, the Titans are mentioned as a suitor.
One team to keep an eye on would be the Tennessee Titans, who hold the first overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. With numerous needs, the idea of selecting a QB at the top of the draft has been met with some contention. The idea that the Titans could possibly trade back to gather more draft capital or select a “generational talent” – presumably not of the quarterback variety – has become the prevailing sentiment around NFL circles.
Head coach Brian Callahan benched Will Levis this past season after various bouts with questionable decision-making, and could very well look at a veteran signal-caller to take up the mantle. That would provide this team with flexibility come draft day, while also finding their starter under center.
A lot of things have to happen for this trade to come about, and right now it’s unclear if Cousins would even entertain waiving his no-trade clause to land in Nashville.
If he did, though, he would be a nice upgrade from Levis. A veteran who’s been in the league for 13 years, who has been to the post-season, who knows what to expect, and how to turn a mistake into positive yardage. Cousins easily has a few years left in the tank and would be a solid holdover until the Titans either get Levis developed or find his replacement.
