Dianna Russini of The Athletic mentioned on the Scoop City podcast that the Eagles could be looking to make a run at trading for Browns DE Myles Garrett.
“Here’s what some people are saying right now that Howie is willing to move on from some of these guys because he’s looking to make a big swing. And that big swing would be for Myles Garrett. Some of these guys that you think are a sure thing, may not be sure things to return to Philly,” Russini said.
“Put it past Howie Roseman going after Myles Garrett. No way. Continue to build and build and build in the area that got them to the Super Bowl and in Super Bowls past.”
Even so, Russini stressed that the possibility ultimately comes down to what the Browns are willing to do with Garrett.
“Look, but is Cleveland going to move him? At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to that,” Russini said.
The Browns have maintained that they have zero intention of trading Garrett, despite his trade request. However, Garrett seems dub in on his stance to be moved, so there’s still a long ways to go regarding this situation.
Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Garrett is “not open” to a long-term extension with the team.
The general expectation is that a starting point for a Garrett trade would be two first-round picks and more, assuming the Browns eventually relent on their hardline stance against trading him.
We named the Commanders, Falcons, Bears, Packers, Chargers, and Cardinals as potential frontrunners to keep an eye on in the sweepstakes for Garrett.
Garrett, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He finished the third year of his four-year, $30.4 million fully guaranteed contract and was set to make a base salary of $4.61 million for the 2020 season when he agreed to a five-year extension worth $125 million with the Browns.
He is under contract for two more seasons and is due a little less than $20 million in 2024.
In 2024, Garrett appeared in 17 games and recorded 47 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass defense.
We’ll have more on the Browns and Garrett as the news is available.
