The Tennessee Titans have undergone a major transition in their front office. Gone is Ran Carthon who Mike Borgonzi replaced as general manager and a complete team of personnel guys to assist.
One of the men interviewed by the president of football operations, Chad Brinker, Thomas Dimitroff, talked about the process on Monday on radio row at the Super Bowl. Dimitroff, who built the Atlanta Falcons team that made it to Super Bowl LI, was one of 10 candidates to interview for the job before Brinker decided on Borgonzi.

“Look, I’m a big fan of Chad Brinker,” Dimitroff said. “I think he’s coming to the table as a guy who has a strong understanding of football at multiple levels, given his time in Green Bay, given his time not only on the evaluation side, but also his time in cap and contract and cap management, which is an important part of that role as a president.”
While the overall role as general manager was questioned during the process, the fact that Brinker does have experience in different arms of the front office should be viewed as a positive. Experience with the salary cap and contracts is a huge asset that should mesh well with Borgonzi.
He was also appreciative of the new general manager. “I know them all quite well in their own way,” Dimitroff said. “Mike Borgonzi is a strong football man, been around it, he has a really good eye.”
And seemed excited about the potential that the new regime offers moving forward: “And I’m a huge fan of the team they’re putting together with Reggie McKenzie and Dave Ziegler. It’s a really good staff that Chad Brinker is ultimately putting together, and that’s what this organization in Tennessee needs.”
While the jury is still out on the effectiveness of the new organizational structure, it appears that Thomas Dimitroff believes it can work. Time will tell if it does.
