2024 was a big year for former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George in football circles. Now in 2025, the iconic running back is starting off the year on a high note.
After a successful season as head football coach for the Tennessee State Tigers, leading his team to their first nine-win season in a decade, George was named the Big South-OVC coach of the year. From HBCUSports. The Tigers finished first in the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference and earned their first playoff appearance since 2013 in the process. He is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, which honors the national coach of the year in Division I FCS football.
On Wednesday, it was announced that George will be inducted into the East-West Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame. He was selected along with offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth for induction into the prestigious institution. Both George and Whitworth were recently selected as part of the East-West Shrine Bowl All-Century Team and will now enter their Hall of Fame.
In college, George played four seasons at Ohio State before entering the NFL. The record-setting running back won the Heisman Trophy in 1995 after rushing for 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns in his senior season. George was also awarded the Walter Camp, Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards that season.
The Titans all-time leading rusher, playing for Tennessee from 1996-2003, and was part of the transition from Houston to Nashville. He was the NFL’s AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1996, appeared in four Pro Bowls, and is widely recognized as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history.
The East-West Shrine Bowl is the nation’s oldest college football all-star game and will celebrate its 100th anniversary during the game on January 30.
