Will the Tennessee Titans sign any players away from the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason?
The Tennessee Titans will introduce their new general manager Mike Borgonzi this week. Once officially on the job, Borgonzi will collaborate with president of football operations Chad Brinker to work on improving a roster that went 3-14 in 2024. That task begins with deciding what to do with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Borgonzi and Brinker may also take advantage of free agency to improve the roster. They possess a plethora of cap space, despite claiming they prefer to be a draft-and-develop team moving forward. If Borgonzi is active in free agency, you should expect them to target a couple Kansas City Chiefs players.
Borgonzi is leaving the Chiefs for the Titans. In recent offseasons, the Titans have routinely acquired players that new members of their regime are familiar with. It’s common practice around the league.
When Ran Carthon was named GM, he added several players from his previous stomping ground, the San Francisco 49ers. That list included Arden Key and Daniel Brunskill, who both signed multi-year contracts. Both players remained with the Titans through 2024.
This past offseason, Carthon acquired various talents that were coached by first-year coach Brian Callahan with the Cincinnati Bengals. Chido Awuzie and Tyler Boyd were among those acquisitions.
Furthermore, Borgonzi and Brinker routinely did business this past season together. They were the point-men on the blockbuster L’Jarius Sneed during the offseason. Near the trade deadline, they collaborated again when DeAndre Hopkins was dealt to Kansas City.
The Chiefs are projected to be $2 million above the cap in effective cap space, per Over The Cap’s salary calculator. They possess several players on expiring contracts who could intrigue the Titans. At the forefront of that list is guard Trey Smith, a Pro Bowler who hails from nearby Humboldt and attended the University of Tennessee.
Smith isn’t the only potential target. Other quality Chiefs players slated to reach free agency include Nick Bolton, Justin Reid, Tershawn Wharton, Charles Omenihu, Hopkins, and Derrick Nnadi, to name a few.
If history is any indication, a few of those players will be Titans in 2025.
