The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired head coach Doug Pederson. He was 22-29 in his three seasons in Jacksonville. Jags owner Shad Khan also announced that general manager Trent Baalke will be retained. Baalke has been the GM there since 2021. This head coach will be the third one he has hired in his tenure. That’s pretty rare.
My biggest concern here is that the Jaguars will hire Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Look, Trevor Lawrence hasn’t live up to the hype that was surrounding him when he was drafted as the number one overall pick back in 2021, but I fear that Johnson would be able to get a lot more out of Lawrence.
There was a report out there that Johnson would not be interested in the Jaguars job if Baalke was retained. Hopefully, that is true and the Jaguars have to look elsewhere for their next coach.
With Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay saying that both head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard will be retained, and the rumors that Brian Callahan is safe here with the Tennessee Titans, it looks like the Jaguars will have the only new head coach in the AFC South in 2025.
