The Titans have a huge void to fill with Mike Keith leaving
I am still shook by the announcement that Mike Keith is leaving the Tennessee Titans for the Tennessee Vols. I was pretty confident this was going to happen the day it was announced that Bob Kesling was retiring. Mike Keith loves the University of Tennessee and has always talked about is admiration for the Vols and legendary broadcaster Jon Ward. That doesn’t make me like it, but I can understand why he wanted the job in Knoxville.
Mike Keith’s title with the Titans was Vice President, Broadcasting. If you have paid attention to the Titans official website, you know that he does so much more than just the play-by-play on Sundays. He leaves behind some huge shoes to fill.
I have no idea what the process will be like to fill the role. Is this something that will fall under Chad Brinker or Burke Nihil? These days, it’s hard to figure out what the structure is for anything with the Titans.
With that being said, here are some local guys that should be in consideration to take over for Mike Keith:
Jonathan Hutton, Outkick
This is the guy that I am behind 100%. Hutton worked for Titans Radio for a long time before he left 104.5 to join Outkick. I know people have some strong feelings about Outkick, but let’s set that aside for a minute. If you listened to The Midday 180 you already know how good Hutton is. His interviews with anyone they brought on the show were always really good. You could tell he really did his homework every time. Also, Hutton has a great relationship with Titans color analyst Dave McGinnis who the Titans better be working hard to retain.
Kevin Ingram, Vandy Sports
Ingram has done play-by-play for various teams in the Nashville area. He is currently doing the sideline reporting for Vanderbilt football and there basketball play-by-play. He hosted The WakeUp Zone on 104.5 for years. He’s a solid broadcaster.
Lucas Panzica, 104.5 The Zone
Panzica has a variety of roles at 104.5 currently including The Buck Reising show, broadcasting for Nashville SC, and he is also the scoreboard host for Titans Radio – which is the role that Mike Keith had when the team first moved here as the Tennessee Oilers back in 1997.
Joe Fisher, MTSU
Fisher was the play-by-play announcer at Vanderbilt for 23 years. He was out of broadcasting for a while, but has recently worked at Tennessee Tech and is currently the women’s basketball play-by-play guy for the MTSU women’s basketball team.
Will Boling, 104.5 The Zone
Boling currently co-hosts Ramon, Kyala, and Will on 104.5 The Zone. He has also done a variety of play-by-play things including Nashville SC, UT baseball, and high school sports.
