Funny guy that Mike Mularkey!
Mike Mularkey doesn’t get as much credit for the pre-Mike Vrabel turnaround as he should. You might remember that Mularkey took over for Ken Whisenhunt when he was fired during the 2015 season. Mularkey made some changes right away, including stripping Taylor Lewan of being a captain, that helped change the culture here. Lewan, of course, would later earn that C and become a great leader for the team.
Mularkey ended up getting the full-time job after the 2015 season. He led the Tennessee Titans to two 9-7 seasons and a playoff win over the Kansas City Chiefs. While he did a great job changing the culture, he refused to run a modern NFL offense. That was what led to Amy Adams-Strunk and Jon Robinson’s decision to fire Mularkey even after winning a playoff game.
Well, Mularkey apparently decided to have a little fun before he was fired. He called Ian Rapoport and told him that the Titans were going to offer him a contract extension the night before he was ultimately fired.
Do you remember @RapSheet reporting Mike Mularkey was going to get a contract extension from the #TitanUp but was fired instead? I think we might know why… @BrentASJax @A_Train_92 pic.twitter.com/2YlyRg7d2k

Whatever you think of Mularkey, that is pretty funny.
