Vrabel, the former Titans head coach, is said to be the hottest candidate this cycle
Multiple outlets are reporting that Mike Vrabel has completed an interview with the New York Jets for their head coaching vacancy. We were told Vrabel would have a job five minutes after the Tennessee Titans fired him. Well, it’s been a year and he still doesn’t have one. That probably won’t be the case for very long.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote an article about what Vrabel has been doing in the year since Amy Adams-Strunk fired him. The biggest takeaway from the article is something we already knew – Vrabel wanted the Titans to hire Ryan Cowden who was on Jon Robinson’s staff after Robinson was fired. AAS wanted to go in a different direction and hired Ran Carthon.
You know what’s really funny? The Jets also interviewed Jon Robinson for their general manager position. What if the Jets end up hiring Robinson and Vrabel? We haven’t heard much about the relationship between the two. The lasting image I have in my mind is Vrabel storming out of the room after Robinson traded A.J. Brown on draft night.
There will probably be between five and eight head coaching vacancies by the time it is all said and done. Vrabel will most likely get one of those jobs. He and Callahan will always be compared to each other around here because there is still a segment of the fanbase that thinks Vrabel should have never been fired. It will be interesting to watch how it all plays out.
